DECIDING WHO GETS THE PLACEBO . . . A CONVERSATION ON JEWISH MEDICAL ETHICS AND DRUG TRIALS
As thousands of volunteers were inoculated with one of several new vaccines to prevent COVID, an equal number of individuals received injections with no benefit at all. The use of control groups has always represented the gold standard in drug testing . . . yet Judaism requires that we do everything in our power to save each person. Are these perspectives irreconcilable? Are we permitted to sacrifice a few for the sake of the many?
Join Rabbi Jonathan Lubliner for a thought provoking conversation at the place where science and religion meet . . . or collide!

Speakers will explore the role of synagogues, mosques and churches in a society struggling with diversity and democracy, and how Muslim and Jewish faith communities connect their faith and beliefs to civic life and public policy.

Moses, Man of the Mountain by Zora Neale Hurston
Tuesday, May 11 at 7:30 PMZoom meeting link sent after RSVP here  or send an email to Marion Tischler at remindjax@aol.com

Zora Neale Hurston blends the Moses of the Old Testament with the Moses of black folklore and song to create a compelling allegory of power, redemption, and faith. Narrated in a mixture of biblical rhetoric, black dialect, and colloquial English, Hurston traces Moses’s life from the day he is launched into the Nile river in a reed basket, to his development as a great magician, to his transformation into the heroic rebel leader, the Great Emancipator. From his dramatic confrontations with Pharaoh to his fragile negotiations with the wary Hebrews, this very human story is told with great humor, passion, and psychological insight.
