 \nTo obviate the requirement for the firstborn to fast on Passover eve\, t
 here’s a time-honored tradition of all firstborn participating in a stud
 y session with someone who just happens to complete a Talmudic tractate th
 at very morning.  Because finishing a tractate partakes of a celebratory 
 character\, the firstborn may forego the fast to participate in the Siyyu
 m the religiously mandated meal to honor the occasion.  For the past sev
 eral weeks\, Rabbi Lubliner has been studying tractate Yadayim in anticip
 ation of this year’s Siyyum.  The subject matter of the tractate discu
 sses the laws of ritual handwashing in Judaism (and interesting texts abou
 t how the rabbis decided which books to include in the TaNaKh\, the Hebre
 w Bible).  While this year’s Siyyum can’t take the place of handwas
 hing for 20 seconds with soap and water to stop viral transmission\, you n
 ever know when Yadayim might just come in handy!
